East Texans Sentenced for Federal Drug Violations

TYLER, TX—United States Attorney Rebecca Gregory announced today that two Gregg County men have been sentenced to federal prison for drug-related crimes in the Eastern District of Texas. The sentencing hearings were held today before United States District Judge Leonard E. Davis.

GARY DON KIRKLAND, 35, of Gladewater, Texas, pleaded guilty on July 1, 2008 to being involved in a conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute and distribution of methamphetamine and was sentenced today to 105 months in federal prison.

DAVID ANDREW MCNEEL, 32, of Longview, Texas, pleaded guilty on July 3, 2008 to the same charges and was sentenced today to 60 months in federal prison.

According to information presented in court, since approximately July 2004, Kirkland, McNeel, and other co-defendants had been conspiring to distribute methamphetamine in and around Longview. A federal superseding indictment was returned on October 2, 2007, charging 15 individuals with conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine.

This case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Gregg County Organized Drug Enforcement Unit (CODE), Gregg County Sheriff's Office, and the Longview Police Department. This case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Richard L. Moore.
