Longview Man Sentenced for Federal Drug Violations

TYLER, TX—U.S. Attorney Rebecca A. Gregory announced today that a 32-year-old Longview man has been sentenced to federal prison for drug violations in the Eastern District of Texas. 

DEDRIC MANDELL THOMAS pleaded guilty on Oct. 31, 2008, to possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine and was sentenced today to 82 months in federal prison by U.S. District Judge Leonard E. Davis.  Thomas also agreed to the forfeiture of $5,000.00.

According to information presented in court, since July 2006, Thomas had been distributing crack cocaine to others in and around the Longview, Texas area. 

A federal indictment was returned on Sep. 9, 2008, charging Thomas and four others with federal crimes.  John Richard Harmon, Jr. was sentenced to 78 months in federal prison on Feb. 26, 2009, Devetric Tramel Johnson was sentenced to 120 months in federal prison on Feb. 10, 2009, and D'Angelo Lasarre Thomas was sentenced to 46 months in federal prison on Apr. 2, 2009.  The remaining defendant awaits sentencing.

This case is being investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the East Texas HIDTA Violent Crimes Task Force, the Gregg County C.O.D.E. Unit, the Gregg County Sheriff's Office, the Longview Police Department and the Gregg County District Attorney's Office and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Richard L. Moore.
