Four Longview Men Sentenced In Crack Cocaine Case

TYLER, TX—U.S. Attorney John M. Bales announced today that four Longview, Texas men have been sentenced to federal prison for drug violations in the Eastern District of Texas. The sentencing hearings were held before U.S. District Judge Leonard E. Davis.

WILLIAM EARL JOHNSON, JR., 32, pleaded guilty on Nov. 3, 2008, to possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine and use and carrying of a firearm during a drug trafficking crime and was sentenced today to a total of 197 months (137 months for the drug charge and 60 months for the firearms charge) in federal prison. Johnson also agreed to the forfeiture of all interest in property seized and a forfeiture judgment of $5,000.

JAMES DARRELL LISTER, JR., 27, pleaded guilty on Oct. 30, 2008, to possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine and was sentenced today to 188 months in federal prison. Lister also agreed to a forfeiture judgment of $10,000.

ARTHUR JAMES WOODS, 31, pleaded guilty on Dec. 18, 2008, to possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine and was sentenced today to 46 months in federal prison. Woods also agreed to a forfeiture judgment of $5,000.

STEVEN DUANE GLOVER, 24, pleaded guilty on Jan. 15, 2009, to the use and carrying of a firearm during a drug trafficking crime and was sentenced today to 60 months in federal prison. Glover also agreed to the forfeiture of all interest in firearms seized.

According to information presented in court, since approximately January 2006, the defendants were part of a drug distribution ring dealing crack cocaine to others in and around the Longview, Texas area. An 87-count federal superseding indictment was returned on May 13, 2008, charging 29 individuals with federal drug and gun crimes.

This case is being investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the East Texas HIDTA Violent Crimes Task Force, the Gregg County C.O.D.E. Unit, the Gregg County Sheriff's Office, the Longview Police Department, the Gregg County District Attorney's Office, and the Kilgore Police Department. This case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Richard L. Moore.
