Dallas Man Guilty of Robbing Emory, Texas Bank

TYLER, TX—U.S. Attorney John M. Bales announced today that a 47-year-old Dallas man has pleaded guilty to federal bank robbery violations in the Eastern District of Texas.

FREDDY LEE CRISS pleaded guilty to bank robbery today before U.S. Magistrate Judge Judith K. Guthrie.

According to information presented in court, on Apr. 30, 2009, Criss entered the First National Bank of Emory in Emory, Texas, ordered a bank customer to the floor, demanded cash from the tellers, and fled the bank with U.S. Currency. Criss was indicted by a federal grand jury on May 6, 2009, and charged with federal bank robbery violations.

Criss faces up to 20 years in federal prison at sentencing. A sentencing date has not been set.

This case is being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Hunt County Sheriff's Office, the Rains County Sheriff's Office, the Texas Department of Public Safety, the Texas Rangers, and the Emory Police Department and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Richard L. Moore.
