BANK ROBBERY AT COMERICA BANK Robert E. Casey Jr., Special Agent In Charge, Dallas, FBI, is seeking the public’s assistance for information concerning the bank robbery which occurred at the Comerica Bank, 1483 N. Hampton, Desoto, Texas, on February 1, 2008. Preliminary investigation indicates six (6) males entered the bank at approximately 1:10 PM. A group of robbers vaulted the teller counter, while the others controlled the lobby area. The robbers are described as a male, black, wearing black jackets, hoods, masks and gloves. The robbers were armed. This bank robbery is believed to have been committed by a group dubbed the “Scarecrow Bandits”. These robbers are believed to be responsible for at least 17 bank robberies since July, 2007. The “Scarecrow Bandits” began working in teams of two to three, and have recently conducted bank robberies in teams of 5 and 6. The “Scarecrow Bandits” are known to “takeover” a bank during a robbery attempt. These takeovers have included vaulting the teller counter and assaulting bank employees. These robbers have been armed with handguns and should be considered ARMED AND DANGEROUS. On November 30, 2007 Robert E. Casey Jr., Special Agent In Charge, Dallas, FBI, announced that Bank of America, Comerica Bank, the North Texas Crime Commission and the FBI were offering rewards totaling up to $25,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the “Scarecrow Bandits”. This reward is still in place. The FBI and DeSoto Police Department are jointly investigating this robbery. Anyone recognizing these robbers or having information about their current whereabouts should call the Dallas FBI Office at 972-559-5000 or their local police agency. These persons should not be approached by citizens who may recognize them or know their whereabouts. Photographs from bank surveillance cameras will be posted on bandittracker.com. as soon as they become available.
