DALLAS FIRE DEPARTMENT HAZMAT UNIT
ASSISTS DALLAS FBI WITH SUSPICIOUS LETTER

Robert E. Casey Jr., Special Agent In Charge, Dallas, FBI, announced today the Dallas Fire Department HAZMAT Unit responded to the FBI Dallas Office located at One Justice Way, Dallas, Texas on April 24, 2008.
At approximately 10:00 AM on April 24, 2007 an FBI employee was involved in screening mail that had arrived at the Dallas Office. During the screening procedure an envelope containing a powder substance spilled into a hooded, ventilation controlled area. Following established procedures, the Dallas Fire Department HAZMAT Unit was contacted. The HAZMAT Unit “field screened” the substance and determined it was not a chemical or biological threat. The substance has been brought to the Dallas Public Health lab for further analysis.
At no time was there a safety threat to FBI employees the general public. Investigation concerning the source of the mail will be pursued.
