Suspicious White Powder Letters Received Around the United States
Robert E. Casey Jr., Special Agent in Charge, Dallas FBI, announces that since Monday at least 12 letters containing a suspicious white powder have been received by the offices of governors around the country.
The white powder substance has been field screened and the tests have met with negative results. The white powder substance has been forwarded to local laboratories for further testing.
The FBI has contacted the governors' offices to be on the lookout for additional letters.
To date, all letters have been postmarked from Dallas, Texas and were received by governors’ offices in Rhode Island, Michigan, Mississippi, Alabama, Minnesota, Montana, Missouri, Alaska, Maine, Oklahoma, Hawaii, and Texas. These letters are all similar in nature.
If you are to receive a letter, please notify the FBI and your local authorities. Information on how to handle a suspicious package can be found on www.fbi.gov.
Sending a hoax letter is still a federal crime and has serious consequences.
