Capture of Donald Ray Williams

On Sunday, March 15, 2009, at 1:25 PM, Donald Ray Williams was captured, without incident in Rosebud, Texas.

Williams had been wanted for a September 5, 2007, $1.9 million armed car robbery in Dallas, Texas. Williams accomplice, Freddy Lee Footes had already been captured and convicted for his part in the robbery.

In February, 2009, Clear Channel Outdoor Digital Billboards began posting information concerning Williams on its digital billboards along Tom Landry Freeway in the Grand Prairies and Arlington area.  Within several hours the Dallas FBI began receiving tips as to the possible whereabouts of Williams.

The San Antonio Division of the FBI was notified of a possible location for Williams based off of one of these tips.  The San Antonio FBI began an intensive manhunt for Williams.  Information confirmed Williams had stayed at a residence in San Antonio until very recently.  Yesterday, San Antonio FBI, through San Antonio media outlets, notified the public that Williams may be in the San Antonio area.  This media publicity led to additional tips from the public, one indicating Williams may be in a residence in Rosebud, Texas.

Agents from the Austin FBI office, along with the Rosebud Police Department, Falls County Sheriff's Office, Temple Police Department and Texas Department of Criminal Justice/Office of Inspector General conducted additional investigation in the Rosebud, Texas area which led a residence where Williams was located.

Williams is currently being held at the Mclennon County Jail in Waco, Texas.

Investigation in this matter continues.
